GGG Presents the Pop Up
ABOUT

ArtCenter/ South Florida & GGG present The Pop Up, an exhibition of urban contemporary art.  The exhibit will showcase the private SUSHISAMBA collection including the Eames Inspiration Collection and four works by Remed along with independent street artists Bask, Flip, Sesper, Smael and Tes One.  The Pop Up blurs the line between the street and the gallery, presenting a multifaceted exhibition highlighting the freshest and most undeniable influences of urban aesthetics and contemporary design.

EAMES INSPIRATION COLLECTION

The “Eames Inspiration” collection is comprised of iconic Eames® Molded Plywood Chairs as re-imagined by some of today’s most celebrated graffiti and street artists. “Eames Inspiration” was displayed this past May in Barneys’ famous windows in New York by Simon Doonan and auctioned online to benefit Operation Design — a creative mentorship program that organizes architects, artists and related talents to work with New York City public school students to create motivating and inspiring projects. The majority of the collection was purchased at a public auction by SUSHISAMBA and GGG and gave the public an opportunity to view it in its entirety for the first time since last spring, during Art Basel, Miami Beach.

Eames is so important to the American cultural landscape – To be a street artist, you just have to have a lot of emotion, and a lot of bravado and a lot of guts. But to design timeless furniture – it’s extremely hard to be able to produce those exquisite designs.” – Simon Doonan.

Satellite  Exhibition:
Made in Colombia
In celebration of Colombian Independence Day, Cecilia Moreno-Yaghoubi unveils Made in Colombia, a thought-provoking installation that explores the immigrant experience of self-discovery through displacement.  Giving new purpose to found objects, the mixed media artist has culled discarded dolls, shoes, clothing and other things that will be suspended in ArtCenter/ South Florida’s 2nd Floor Vitrine Windows, creating a layered effect of floating, tactile memories.
