THE LATIN AMERICAN PAVILION & THE INTERNATIONAL WING
ART Shanghai 2012
It is with great pride that I have accepted to be the Associate Director of the new edition of THE LATIN AMERICAN PAVILION & THE INTERNATIONAL WING in the occasion of the 10th Edition of ART Shanghai – May 10-14, 2012.
Today, China has become the number one largest art market in the world, challenging the United States and Britain for prominence with its rising collector class and booming economy. Where Chinese collectors once invested in traditional works of art, research shows that they are rapidly embracing the contemporary art market with a younger generation of affluent consumers driving record sales in this developing area.
Located in the heart of the nation’s international business district, Shanghai is China’s most populous city and home to over 20 million inhabitants and has emerged as a critical cultural platform attracting worldwide attention. The historic city not only offers superior international art fairs and expansive cultural initiatives, but is also an unparalleled Asian and contemporary art market increasingly interested in international art trends.
ART Shanghai: has been successfully held for nine consecutive years since its establishment in 2003. With its distinctive style and characteristic such as high quality, great artistry of works and excellent professional service, the fair takes the fancy of exhibitors and visitors. Its influence covering the whole nation and overseas areas, the fair has become a significant cultural brand of Shanghai, enjoying fairly high reputation throughout the world.Once again ART SHANGHAI will host the presence of THE LATIN AMERICAN PAVILION & THE INTERNATIONAL WING (Space dedicated to Western Artl), a prominent section dedicated to the highest quality of Latin-American Art and Western Art from masters and contemporaries. LAP is a pioneer of its kind in Asia and a referring cornerstone of Latin-American and Western culture in artistic Asian circles, housing important galleries from various origins in Europe, North America, Asia, and Latin America, all of which today exhibit through it the works of renowned artists from all continents.
ART Shanghai 2012 will be held in Hongqiao New Town Central Park based on its advantage of location in Hongqiao Development Zone and its ecological natural environment. Carnival is introduced as the form of the exhibition into the life of the public. This is also the first time for achieving the conception of outdoor exhibition in Asia. Located in the triangle encircled by Yan’an Rd., Hongqiao Rd. and Yili Rd.,
New Town Central Park covers an area of 130,000 square meters and borders on professional art institutes such as Shanghai Oil Painting & Sculpture institute and Liu Haisu Art Gallery with a large number of elite visitors from numerous top office buildings and most populated high-grade communities and villas in the downtown area of Shanghai in Gubei and the West Suburb in vicinity.
Apart from following its traditional exhibition method focusing on main parts, ART Shanghai Hong Qiao Arts Carnival will also take advantage of the unique geographic environment of the park and realize the art exhibition form characterized by its rich variety and edutainment integrating exhibition, entertainment, leisure and interaction.
The outreach literally to millions in Asia will be covered by Art Shanghai Fair’s marketing committee which advertises, in 80 prominent national and international magazines, as well as an extensive television and newspaper campaign saturating the huge region. This year’s event will also feature bleeding-edge technology offering social networking coverage on a truly global scale.
The outcome joins a wide variety of collectors, art agencies, critics, artists, government officials and celebrities from China and abroad in an opportunity to access an ascending art market of unprecedented scope and dynamism.
Sincerely,
Aldo Castillo
